Lieutenant Bryan was one of the nineteen R.M. Officers who volunteered for the F.A.A under AFO 1058/24.
Having completed his flying training at RAF Netheravon and Leuchars, he was posted to Malta to join H.M.S. Hermes.
Unfortunately, on 30 March 1926 whilst carrying out deck landing practice in a Fairey IUD on the Hermes he went over the side when landing on and was drowned.
