After service in the Grand Fleet in the Great War and 8th RM Battalion (Ireland) and in the West Indies he volunteered for flying duties in 1925 and was one of the 19 RM Officers to do so at this time.
He qualified as a Bomber/Reece pilot and served in 443 Flight in Furious before returning to Corps Duties on 11 November 1926.
He retired after World War II on 24 November 1947.
