YO time with 40 Commando in Malta.
1963 Oct Commenced initial flying training RAF Linton-on-Ouse on Chipmunks.
1964 Feb Completed intitial flying training.
1964 Mar Commenced helicopter training RNAS Culdrose - 705 Squadron Hiller 12E with 115 HSP. Injured shoulder during airfield incursion exercise. Rehab at Headley Court.
Jul 1964 Re-commenced training with 116 HSP.
Sep 1964 ' Graduated ' to Whirlwinds.
Dec 1964 Awarded RN wings. Graduated to Wessex V with 707 Sqn.
May 1965 Completed Commando Operational Flying Training.
Oct 1965 Joined 845 Sqn at Culdrose with Wessex V.
Aug 1966 Embark Bulwark. Sail for Far East, centered on Simbang, Singapore. Ship arrived too late for Borneo confrontation.
Apr 1967 End of appointment 845 Sqn.
Jun 1967 Joined 72 Sqn, RAF Odiham with Wessex II, 'on exchange'. Gained ALTP(H).
Nov 1969 Retired / demobbed / shuffled into . . . . . civvy street -
Feb 1970 Joined Bristow Helicopters,Perth, Western Australia. Flew Wessex 60, Bell 47, & Bell 206. Tasks- mineral survey in the 'outback' and offshore oil exploration, mainly on the North West shelf of WA.
1974 Finished full time work for Bristows. Commenced work in estate agency. Continued for a while working part time for Bristows.
May 1977 Hughes 500 conversion
1974 to 1983 Freelance flying - general aerial work - TV news crews, survey work, fisheries support and amongst many other varied tasks - flying Miss Universe contestants, searching for Skylab remains.
Dec 1983 Last helicopter flight as pilot in command.
Total hours 4,055.
